Vintage African Benin bronze statue of King Oba, Nigeria. Very large statue. Magnificent head from the Benin Empire. Bronzes of this region are among the most famous ones of Africa.

Benin sculptors mastered the cire perdue (lost-wax) technique and created statues for the representation of kings, queens and high dignitaries.
These bronze pieces were exclusively destined to the use of the royal court, thus, they were only exhibited in the royal palace and its auxiliary buildings.
